A news report came out today for a new drug claiming BIO-E-GELTM thwarts postmenopausal hot flashes.
The drug company, BioSante, just filed a New Drug Application for BIO-E-GELTM with the FDA in February. For those who wish to consider this type of therapy, the early results look pretty good. Here are some of the basics:
They conducted a study over 12 weeks of 484 post-menopausal women. During the screening of these 484 women, they all had experienced at least 120 hot flashes over a 2 week period… almost 10 per day. They were required to record everything in diaries and varied the amounts of BIO-E-GELTM they took.
For those taking a higher amount, they saw a decrease in hot flashes by 88% (down from 12.9 per day to 1.6 per day). Pretty nice. For those taking a lower dose, they also saw a decrease and had good estradiol blood levels with a safety profile similar to that observed in the placebo group.
So, keep an eye out for more news on this BIO-E-GELTM drug. It could be promising. I am not sure of side affects or anything like that yet, which could make these promising results worthless, but for now, this is good news.
