Alright… we've been going through a small series on natural remedies for menopause and hot flashes. Let's get into some supplements and herbs and see how they help.
There are several herbs used as menopause natural remedies, and quite a few that should be of significant help. Black Cohosh root is a powerhouse (and probably the best known. It helps relieve insomnia, night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings and vaginal dryness. That pretty much covers most of the bases.
Chasteberry, (also known as Agnus castus) is effective for hot flashes and hormonal imbalances which cause mood swings and irritability. You can go to a natural food store (Whole foods) or find this online.
Another rich source of isoflavones is found in red clover. Red clover makes a tasty tea. It's not too bad about mid-day… or if you want to feel English, have your red clover tea at 10:00 a.m.
Wild yam can help adjust the balance of progesterone and estrogen.
Gingko biloba helps with problems of memory and concentration.
Motherwort has been used for centuries, quenching many troublesome symptoms, including insomnia, anxiety, hot flashes, depression and retention of water. I'm not crazy about this one, but it is one that is fairly common.
Whew… lots of stuff here. Next time we will wrap things up on getting physical and relieving those menopause symptoms.
