Since we just finished talking about some of the treatments for Osteo, I know there are many people who are much more into some natural treatments… me being one of them. So, I want to cover some of those things… along with a brief recap:
Osteoporosis is a bone thinning condition that many women have to deal with during and after menopause. I say women because women are more likely to have osteoporosis than men are. There are a few conditions that apply to who gets the disease of course, but the majority of the population with osteoporosis are women.
Factors that increase ones chance of getting osteoporosis are age, sex, smoking, race, genetics, body size, Corticosteroid medications, diet, alcohol, exercise and breast cancer. Treatments for osteoporosis range from medical prescriptions to many different types of natural ways to make your bones stronger. In the article you will read about several natural ways of treating osteoporosis.
Calcium Does a Body Good!
Calcium is the number one nutrient that helps build and keep strong bones. An adult from the age of 19 to 50 needs 1,000 milligrams of calcium everyday to keep their bone healthy, a person 51 and above needs 1,200 milligrams of calcium each day. Osteoporosis is not a direct result of not having enough calcium but rather insufficient amounts of several nutrients.
Remember from our post a few days ago though… you might want to consider Goat's milk instead of cow's milk for calcium. Also, calcium can come in the form of food. You can see from the photo some of your options.
Vitamin D is a Must Have!
Vitamin D helps the body to absorb the calcium. Getting sunlight and foods rich in this essential vitamin are great ways of getting the amount of Vitamin D the body needs to absorb the calcium. Spending 10 to 15 minutes with sunlight on the hands, arms and face three times a week is a good way to get the Vitamin D you need and a good natural treatment for osteoporosis.
I am going to continue to work on some of these things… so touch base with you in a few days
