When Can I Expect Menopause to start?

The first symptoms of menopause vary greatly. Some women might notice changes in their bodily functions in the late thirties. In most cases this age is too early for menopause, but the body will gradually slow down the production of various hormones, making the body react in various ways: The menstrual cycles will become irregular and the amount of menstrual flow will change. However, actual menopause normally occurs betweeen the age of 45 to 55.
Before actual menopause, women go through a stage called perimenopause. This period varies greatly from person to person, and can lasts from a few

months to ten years or so.

Let me ask you a simple question…do you know what the early menopause signs and symptoms are?

Women who are going through menopause between the ages of twenty and forty, which is well below the average age to do so, are said to be going through early menopause or premature menopause. Normally, the average age that most women would have gone through and be finished with their menopause would be about fifty one. These figures indicate that most women will be going through their changes between the ages of forty seven and fifty three.

It is not really known why some women go through early menopause. It is believed that sometimes genetic factors can be a reason why a woman starts with premature menopause. Stress, a poor diet, heavy smoking and drinking can be factors that help contribute to this. Autoimmune diseases, which are usually disorders that result from an imbalance in the immune system, can also affect menopause.

More than likely, early menopause is simply caused by the fact that a woman was born with fewer eggs in her ovaries than the average woman.

If a woman receives radiation therapy or chemotherapy, a large number of eggs will be destroyed by this treatment leaving fewer eggs in her ovaries. A woman whose ovaries have been infected by a severe viral infection, such as mumps, would have suffered a lot of damage to her eggs also.

A woman who before the age of forty, has had to have her ovaries surgically removed for medical reasons can no longer produce ovarian hormones. This will cause her to go through severe early menopause especially if she does not have hormone therapy. Any kind of pelvic surgery, such as a hysterectomy, that affects the flow of blood to the ovaries will eventually cause the ovaries to fail.

Even though premature ovarian failure, also known as POF, is a condition known as premature menopause, does not really mean that the ovaries have stopped producing eggs. It is more likely that even though the eggs are present, the body is not responding to the signs to ovulate.

A woman who begins to experience the symptoms of early menopause and still gets fairly regular periods may have a condition known as diminished ovarian reserve. If this happens to her before the age of forty then she may be starting with the condition known as POF (premature ovarian failure).

Women that have a greater risk of developing osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases are those women that have already started to go through an early menopause. In order to be able to fight these diseases, any woman who knows that she has already started to go through menopause at an early age should make sure that she starts to take HRT (hormone replacement therapy) so that she can be better protected from these diseases. She should also make sure that she does not give up on her medication but take it for the time necessary for it to be effective.

These are a couple of the early menopause signs and symptoms that are part of other women's health issues.

Hormone replacement therapy can be very effective in taming the side effects of menopause. Hormone replacement therapy can provide a lot of benefits, but is not totally without risks. Read on for five things that you should know about hormone replacement therapy.

Hormone replacement therapy is used to replace hormones that are naturally produced by the ovaries. Symptoms including headaches and night sweats are commonly experienced when the ovaries cease hormone production. These are not by any means all of the effects which are caused by menopause, but are a few of the most common which HRT can provide some relief from. After taking the replacement hormones for a month or so, many women report some relief from the symptoms of menopause.

Hormone replacement therapy can be prescribed in several different forms. Doctors can assist women in determining which hormone replacement therapies are best for her particular set of menopause symptoms. Replacement hormones can be had in the form of "bioidentical" hormones, which are naturally produced by plants or as synthetic hormones created through chemical processes. Replacement hormones can be found in pill form, as creams, gels and injections, even transdermal patches! Many women find that one form works better for them than another.

Hormone replacement therapy has risks and side effects. The majority of doctors are of the opinion that healthy women can tolerate hormone therapy for a period of up to five years at low dosages without suffering any significant risks or side effects. There are, however, some risks. Some studies suggest that HRT increases a woman's risks of breast, uterine or endometrial cancer, heart disease and blood clot formation. Women who have a history of these cancers will usually be encouraged to not take these hormones. There are also some side effects which may show up in the short term, including dizziness, headaches, hair growth and nausea.

There are health benefits from taking HRT. There are benefits as well as risks for menopausal women in taking HRT. Hormones can alleviate the symptoms of menopause experienced by many women and also may have some effects in reducing the chances of developing Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis and some degenerative eye diseases. The benefits of HRT are many and should also be well understood by women.

Taking HRT is not a must for menopause. Not every woman going through menopause opts for hormone replacement therapy. Menopause, after all, is a natural process which is part of aging. A lot of women simply deal with menopause without any sort of medications. Regular exercise, a good diet, vitamins and other supplements and just keeping your stress level down can all be good for keeping the effects of menopause to a minimum. Menopausal women should remember to get regular checkups as well. Doctors may sometimes recommend herbal remedies in conjunction with other methods to reduce the severity of menopause symptoms.
